Farmers of the Month!

In appreciation of outstanding NOFA-NY member farmers who are certified organic or Farmer’s Pledge and have gone above and beyond to help our educational cause, we are excited to share our new“Farmer of the Month” initiative. These farmers (unrelated to our Farmer of the Year) will be promoted through eNews & social media.

We recognize Kingbird Farm (Karma and Michael Glos) in Richford, NY as our first Farmer of the Month!  Enjoy their answers to our five questions:
Q: How long have you been farming?
A: We have been farming since 1996. We bought this farm and have been here ever since.
Q: What first brought you to farming?
A: We both had been raised in avid gardening families and it became obvious during college that it was our true vocation.
3. Why do you farm?
We farm because it’s what drives us. We feel a sincere desire to provide good food for our community.
4. What advice would you give someone considering a career in farming?
Do it! Read, ask questions, visit farmers you admire and jump in with your eyes wide open!
5. In your opinion, what is the most important thing consumers should know about organic farming?
Consumers should know that small scale organic farmers are still doing it right. We still embrace the whole organic paradigm and do it for the sake of the land, not for the bottom line.
