- Please note: The Starter and Grower feed for chickens are labeled differently than the feed we previously carried from Lakeview. The “Cold Springs Complete Broiler Feed” is 22% protein and is basically the same as the Lakeview “chick starter.” We recommend using Cold Spring Broiler feed for the first few weeks of young chicks (layer and broiler). After a few weeks we suggest switching to the lower protein “Cold Springs Complete Chick Starter” that is 18% Protein and basically the same as the Lakeview “grower.” We realize this is confusing and that the feeds are labeled the exact opposite of the feed we previously carried. Bottom line- the “Chick Starter” is 18% protein and the “Broiler” is 22% Protein.
